About the project

Imagine a truly futuristic city project – Envisioned as a spot of innovation and international exchange, it puts a strong focus on sustainable living. The utopian vision includes a smart industrial complex & international trade area, attractions for tourists, and focuses on an innovative city ecosystem relying fully on renewable energy sources.

What is the city’s municipality searching for?

The scope of the contest is technologies and smart service solutions for the municipality. This means, that we are not searching for trends and ideas for smart cities in general but we are really focusing on innovative and futuristic solutions for the municipalities’ maintenance and operation activities within the city infrastructure in the following 4 areas (details see below).

What do we look for in the area of Smart Waste Management & Outdoor Cleaning?

Regarding Smart Waste Management we’re looking into the following topics:

• Innovative ideas around the waste collection, transportation, sorting and treatment of discarded materials from residencies (i.e. automation and robotic technology to enhance collection, sorting and disposal processes, ...)
• Cleaning of streets and other public outdoor infrastructure
• Environmentally friendly disposal methods (i.e. Waste-to-Energy conversion)
• Smart solutions for field team services (i.e. software solutions for the cleaning teams)
• Smart and engaging citizen involvement (i.e. Education on waste/ recycling etc.)

What do we look for in the area of Smart Road Infrastructure Maintenance?

Regarding Smart Road Infrastructure Maintenance, we’re looking into the following topics:

• Smart road infrastructure (i.e. solutions/ ideas such as electrified roads that can charge electric vehicles)
• Innovative technologies for infrastructure maintenance & management (i.e. using drones for road inspection, AI camera for monitoring, and any technology that benefits infrastructure maintenance/predictive maintenance to monitor and analyze road conditions)
• Futuristic ideas around how to offer a seamless/human-centered experience for citizens (i.e. mobility as a service, useful services/ information for citizens)

Please be aware that we are NOT looking for different types of futuristic transportation or traffic management - the focus is on the operation & maintenance of street infrastructure.

What do we look for in the area of Smart Parking Management?

Regarding Smart Parking we’re looking into the following topics:

• Futuristic parking solutions (i.e. parking app with real-time data)
• Human-centered / Seamless parking experience (i.e. contact-less payment, please go wild about the future)
• Innovative electric vehicle charging solutions (i.e. battery swap)

What do we look for in the area of Smart Neighborhood Infrastructure management?

Regarding Smart Neighborhood Infrastructure, we’re looking into the following topics:

• Innovative & futuristic solutions for the management & maintenance of public places and spaces
• Futuristic ideas for smart urban park management (i.e. smart park furniture, guidance for visitors, dynamic park programming/interactive park features, bio-inspired drones)
• Environmental monitoring, landscaping, beautification of streets (i.e. smart energy consumption, smart water, and soil monitoring, smart plant management…)
• Citizen engagement (i.e. through interactive platforms, the metaverse)
• Smart infrastructure for pet shelters/animal sanctuaries (i.e. wild animals are out of scope)
